Central Library

Our Mission

We fund the programs, spaces, and stories that help Lincoln’s libraries enrich every corner of our community. The Central Library project is the culmination of our efforts.

Branch Information

In downtown Lincoln, something big is taking shape: a new Central Library built for connection, creativity, and the future of our city.

Since 2002, our Foundation has been working with Lincoln City Libraries on a bold vision: a downtown library that reflects who we are and where we’re headed. One that’s welcoming, modern, and designed as a place for all of Lincoln to gather, learn, and belong.

Backed by months of community conversations, surveys, and expert insights, the “Central Library Vision and Concept Study” laid the groundwork. Architects, consultants, and library leaders came together with one goal: to imagine what’s possible when Lincoln reinvests in access, literacy, and opportunity for all.

It’s a grand vision and the most ambitious project in our history. Now, the Central Library project is turning the page from those early drafts to a landmark work, one that will shape Lincoln’s downtown for decades to come. Construction begins in spring 2026, and the Central Library will become a reality by spring 2028.
